* The Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) expresses a material's ability to reflect solar energy. It is defined such that a standard black color (solar reflectance of 0.05, emissivity of 0.90) has a value of 0, while a standard white (reflectance of 0.80, emissivity of 0.90) has a value of 100. The higher the SRI value, the better suited the material is for cool surface applications. SRI values can even exceed 100. These values are calculated using Solar Reflectance (SR) and Infrared Emissivity (IE) as defined by the ASTM E1980 standard. "Calculation of Solar Reflectance Index of horizontal and low-sloped opaque surfaces". An equivalent EN standard was published in 2017: "EN 17190: Flexible sheets for waterproofing – Solar Reflectance Index".

Completion: 2023 and 2024

Work carried out initially on the Drive in Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, followed in 2024 by the application on the hypermarket in Fleury Les Aubrais and on the three other Drives in Orléans Nord.

Results: an immediate reduction in heat in the mezzanine area of ​​the building, grateful employees in a better working environment, an overall decrease in energy consumption for cold storage rooms and, consequently, significant financial savings!

The project involved five restaurants and the results achieved fully met expectations.

This strategy aimed at a dual objective: reducing energy bills and increasing customer well-being.

Thanks to the thermo-reflective treatment of their roofs, the various buildings, of varying heights and insulation thicknesses ranging from 5 to 15 cm of polyurethane or rock wool, saw an approximately 20% reduction in energy consumption. The return on investment is expected within 3 to 4 years, depending on energy costs. Temperature gains of 5 to 6°C were measured in offices without air conditioning , while the temperature measured in the walkways covered with steel decking was 8°C lower after the treatment was applied.

Owned by the Saint-Gobain group, this platform, 100% dedicated to building professionals, offers all trades under one roof, complete solutions and a selection of products for construction sites, particularly in energy renovation.

The intervention was part of the overall energy optimization of the building.

The building, over 10 meters high and with 50 mm of polyurethane insulation under the roof, recorded the following results after one year of data collection:

  • Savings of €100,000 on energy bills, representing approximately a 40% reduction in consumption
  • A return on investment in less than one year
  • Customers reported feeling cooler inside the building even when the air conditioning was out of service (July 2025).
